Un nuevo aroma se respira en el Paseo Marítimo. Cappuccino Grand Café abre sus puertas.
Hasta entonces Cappuccino solo estaba en Palmanova, el pueblo en el que nací. Aún sabiendo el elevado riesgo que suponía la inversión y disponiendo de muy pocos medios en un momento en el que era difícil conseguir financiación, me aventuré a coger uno de los locales más grandes de la ciudad de Palma, en pleno Paseo Marítimo, con una terraza de 500m2 y dos plantas acristaladas. Era la primera vez en Mallorca que se abría un local con diseño de verdad. Cada rincón, cada detalle estaba estudiado para ser un verdadero Grand Café.
Recuerdo el día antes de la apertura cuando veía cómo estaba quedando el local. La gente se paraba fascinada a mirarlo, habíamos iluminado una de las esquinas más concurridas de la ciudad.
De no haber nada, de repente, ¡wow! Un lugar mágico, espectacular.
Ese mismo día hicimos la gran fiesta de inauguración “The Grand Opening”. La fiesta fue multitudinaria, acudieron todos los que tenían que venir. De la música se encargó una Big Band compuesta por 28 personas, todos vestidos con su smoking, chicos americanos que tocaron una música muy cool, al estilo de la película Whiplash (Damien Chazelle, 2014). Todos vestidos de gala como así lo exigía la tarjeta “Se ruega traje oscuro o etiqueta”.
Hemos celebrado muchas inauguraciones, fiestas y eventos pero nunca se repetirá aquella increíble noche.
A la mañana siguiente, al despertar, recuerdo bajar desde mi casa a la playa, meterme en el mar, empezar a nadar y ver una especie de luz que me tocaba.
Sentí el éxito.

A new scent permeates the air in Paseo Marítimo. Cappuccino Grand Café opens its doors.
Until then, Cappuccino was only in Palmanova, the town where I was born. Even knowing the high risk involved in the investment and having very limited resources at a time when it was difficult to get funding, I ventured to secure one of the largest venues in the city of Palma on the seafront promenade, with a terrace of 500m2 and two large floors totally encased in glass. It was the first time in Mallorca that a café had opened with true, authentic design, and where every corner, every detail was tirelessly conceived to be a real Grand Café.
I remember how the day before the opening, when people saw how the building had been transformed, that they would stop in their tracks and stare, fascinated by how we had lit one of the busiest corners of the city.
From nothing, suddenly wow! It was a magical, spectacular place.
That same day we held an opening party, “The Grand Opening”. The party was inundated. Absolutely everybody we had invited attended. We had commissioned music from a Big Band of 28 musicians, all dressed meticulously in tuxedos, American boys who played cool, soulful jazz in the style of the film Whiplash (Damien Chazelle, 2014). All of the guests were dressed beautifully, none departing from the invitation’s Black Tie dress code.
We have celebrated many openings, parties and events in Cappuccino, but nothing will ever replicate that incredible night.
The next morning, as soon as I awoke, I went down to the beach from my house and, upon entering the sea and starting to swim, I remember that a kind of light touched me.
The feeling of success.
